It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad – Clive Staples Lewis.
There is no attribute of God which self-righteousness does not impugn. Self-righteousness arises partly from pride, but mainly from ignorance of God’s Word. Ever since man became a sinner he has been self-righteous. When he had a righteousness of his own he never gloried of it, but ever since he has lost it, he has pretended to be the possessor of it – Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
Prophets may plant it with their pretended revelations, martyrs may water it with their blood, confessor after confessor may defend it with his learning and with his courage, time may endear it, literature may protect it, and kings may keep guard about it, but He that rules in the heavens, and cares not for human might, shall certainly grasp its trunk, and pulling it up even though it be strong as a cedar, shall hurl it into the fire, because He hath not planted it. Yes, every hoary system of superstition, every ancient form of idolatry, every venerable species of will-worship, shall be certainly overturned, as God is true – C H Spurgeon.
“A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.” ― C.S. Lewis

What we know is as nothing when compared with what we know not – C H Spurgeon
It is a DANGEROUS thing to have an idea and decide to go to the scriptures for sole purpose of getting that idea endorsed – Bishop Noel Jones

I haven’t always been a Christian. I didn’t go to religion to make me happy…I always knew a bottle of PORT would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly do not recommend CHRISTIANITY – C S Lewis…
I have little confidence/poise in those people who speak of having received direct revelations from the Lord, as though he appeared otherwise than by and through the sacred scriptures. His word is so full, so perfect, that for God to make any fresh revelation/expośe to you or me is quite needless.
I do not believe, talking about the INFALLIBILITY OF SCRIPTURES, that, from one cover to the other, there is any mistake of any sort in it, either upon natural or physical science, or upon history or anything.
I am prepared to believe WHATEVER it says, and to take it believing it to be the Word of God; for if it is not all true, it is not worth ANYTHING to me. It may be to the man/woman who is so wise that he can pick out the true from the false; but I am such a fool that I could not do that.
If I do not have a guide that is infallible, I will soon guide myself, for I will have to do so after all; I will have to be correcting the blunders of my guide perpetually, but I am not qualified to do that, and so I am worse off than if I didn’t have any guide at all. Sit down, reason, sit down, thoughts, and let FAITH rise up….Romans 10:17…
If we doubt God’s Word about one thing, we will have small confidence in another thing. Sincere faith in God must treat all God’s Word alike; for the faith, which accepts one word of God and rejects another is evidently not faith in God, but faith in our own judgment, faith in our own taste…Selâh…
I have never heard of quarrels/disagreements/disputes/squabbles among devils, I have never read of divisions/sects in hell: they are all one in their hatred of Jesus, of God and His Children…Selâh
“The fact that Christ died for the ungodly renders self-righteousness a folly. C H Spurgeon
Would God have taken the trouble to make another righteousness if you could have made one of your own? C H Spurgeon
Alas, that folly should be so desperately entrenched in the heart of man, that he will spend his whole life in a persevering attempt to insult his Maker by preparing a righteousness of his own, when his Maker has already wrought out, and brought in, a righteousness perfect in every respect!” C H Spurgeon
Money circulated is a medium of public benefit, while money hoarded is a means of ⁰private discomfort”. C H Spurgeon…
